Grammar Fundamentals for ESL Teachers
X338 (2 semester units in Education)
ESL teachers need to look at grammar and its presentation differently from instructors who teach English to native speakers. In addition to being knowledgeable about basic grammar rules, ESL teachers must be aware of the special difficulties that arise in learning a second language and the reasons these problems occur.
This course provides an in-depth review of basic grammar topics that have particular importance in the ESL classroom. You learn the points of grammar that typically create problems for ESL students and how to compare and contrast them. You learn to explain complex grammar rules in simple terms and which grammar concepts must be understood before new ones are introduced.
