Touching Down Lightly
X460.2 (1 semester unit in Art)
Through the ages, painting and the written word have been closely entwined. Painters from Titian, Rubens, and Goya to Kiefer and Twombly have used lyrical texts as creative inspiration. In this course you explore the written word as a catalyst for creating a visual language that is uniquely your own. Use poetry and other writings as inspiration, and delve into the descriptive, evocative, and abstract possibilities of painting, drawing, and mixed media to discover art that is less literal, yet more revealing.
Prerequisite: Painting Fundamentals X405 or consent of instructor.
