A requirement in the Certificate Program in Human Resource ManagementThis course examines current legal and social issues that impact employee relations, and the practical actions to deal with them. Communications, counseling, performance management, reward and recognition, work/family issues, employee assistance, sexual harassment, managing diversity, and handling formal complaints and discipline are among the topics covered.
Also discussed are the newly emerging structure of organizations, with an emphasis on teams and employee empowerment/involvement; the use of temporary workers; the consistency of organizational change; and the relationship of organizational climate, culture, and values. The course format includes lectures and discussions, guest speakers, interactive exercises, case studies, and readings.
