Asian Gardens
X439 (2 semester units in Landscape Architecture)
How are beauty and harmony created? This course explores the unique attributes, qualities, and origins of Asian gardens and parks. Learn how aspects of the cultures of Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Korea, and India (both Hindu and Islamic) have profoundly influenced the development of open spaces over time. Topics include history, symbolism, architecture, plants, and design details.

MICHAEL FEELEY, B.A., owns a landscape design and building firm in Berkeley. Prior to starting his business, Feeley was responsible for environmental projects in the areas of hazardous waste cleanup and emergency response with the Environmental Protection Agency. He has also advised the Thai government and the U.S./Asia Environmental Partnership on establishing an environmental public participation program.NOTE: This class is closed.
