PHP Programming for the Web
X400 (1 semester unit in EECS)
This introductory course covers the fundamentals of PHP Hypertext Preprocessor. Students learn the background and purpose of PHP and how it functions in the Web's client-server relationship, as well as how it relates to standard HTML. The course presents one of the most common uses for PHP: handling the data created by an HTML form. Other topics covered include writing PHP scripts, using PHP to manage data, and creating Web applications with PHP. By the end of the course, students will have experimented with some of PHP's more advanced features and addressed those issues of Web security that relate to PHP.
Special technical requirements for PHP: Each student should have the following available for the course: hosted web site with 10MB of disk space; MySQL; and PHP4. In general, most web hosts offer workable sites. There are even free PHP web hosting options available. You can find information about web hosting at
