The Abstract in Nature
X427 (2 semester units in Art)
Discovering the myriad abstract forms contained in the natural environment provides fertile ground for creative exploration. Using a variety of painting and drawing techniques and media, this course investigates the ways that line, texture, color, light, and composition are revealed in nature.
Working outdoors, you gather raw material in the form of sketches, writings, and found materials collected on-site. In the studio, these source materials are used to create paintings and drawings that distill the imagery into a unique abstract visual language and iconography.
Note: Bring hard and soft graphite pencils, a small sketchbook, and a magnifying glass to the first meeting.
