Clear and Effective Communication: A Five-Week Workshop

Whether you're writing a memo to your boss or a letter to the editor, it is crucial to craft your argument clearly and persuasively. This course builds your confidence by improving your writing's organization, logic, and style–so whatever kind of writing your work requires, you can get your point across more eloquently and quickly. You delve into the details of the writing process: identifying an audience, choosing the best structure, and revising early drafts of your work.
Enrollment is limited.Prerequisite: Students must be proficient in English and have a solid grasp of English grammar.

MARGARET STEEN, M.J., is a Bay Area freelance writer and editor with more than 10 years of experience. Her work has been published in the Christian Science Monitor, Business 2.0, American Journalism Review, Stanford Business, and Network World and at www.HotJobs.com. She has also written and edited reports for large corporations, nonprofits, and universities. She has worked as a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News and as a copyeditor and editor for InfoWorld, a computer industry trade publication. She has taught courses on copyediting, writing skills, and business writing for UC Berkeley Extension and has taught staff development workshops on business writing. She received a bachelor's degree in comparative literature from Carleton College and a master's degree in journalism from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
