War Stories and Social Change
This course broadly surveys fiction and film that depict the radical and often violent changes that occur in wartime and its aftermath. Such crises are powerful moments of social change. Students will consider works of art that illuminate social change and contemporary culture. They will pay close attention to the aesthetic means by which each artist depicts a world being destroyed and a new one emerging. Finally, students will explore how the social change described in these stories affects their own lives.
