A required course in the Adult Education Teaching Credential Program and the Vocational Education Teaching Credential ProgramThis course offers you the theoretical background and skills necessary to effectively teach programs designed for adults and young adults. The instructor engages you in understanding the developmental characteristics of adults and the implications for selecting appropriate teaching methods and materials. You examine the physiological processes as well as the multiple roles and responsibilities that affect adult learning.

MARGARET KIRKPATRICK, M.A., named Honored Instructor in 2005, has been active in adult education for more than 20 years, serving as an ESL teacher, principal for two adult schools, and director of the statewide Staff Development Institute. While at Merced Adult School, she and her staff earned the California Department of Education Adult Education Program Recognition Award, and the prestigious national Secretaries Award for Adult Education Programs.
