Certification and Evaluation of Sustainable Design: LEED and More
X400.8 (1 semester unit in Architecture)
The various certification standards that guide the sustainable movement can seem overwhelming. There are building codes; energy codes; local, state and federal laws; and various standards that are shaping the sustainable design movement. How do these standards and codes play out on actual projects? In this course, you learn about these codes with emphasis on the most significant standard, the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, which is being adopted by cities and corporations as their benchmark for sustainable design. Through actual project examples and building tours, you see how these codes and standards shape sustainable design.
